Home โบ Child-Resistant Packaging, Explained
Buyer's Guide
If you package anything that shouldn't end up in small hands โ or sell to businesses that do โ child-resistant packaging isn't optional. Here's how the main CR closure types work and which ones we stock.
Child-resistant = hard for a child to open. Tamper-evident = shows if it's been opened (tear bands, heat seals, shrink bands). Regulated products often need both โ a CR closure with a tamper band, or a CR container inside a heat-sealed mylar bag.
All containers ship empty for lawful use. Confirm your specific certification requirements with your attorney or regulator โ we supply the hardware, not legal advice.
Child-resistant (CR) packaging requires a coordinated action to open โ squeeze-and-flip, push-and-turn, or aligned pressure โ that's difficult for children under five but manageable for adults. Certification testing follows the federal Poison Prevention Packaging Act protocol.
Pop top vials (squeeze to open), reversible-cap vials used resistant-side-down, side-pinch jars, and the entire Chubby Gorilla Spiral and Aviator lines with certified CR Smartcaps.
Standard zip mylar bags are not CR. Heat-sealing adds a tamper-evident barrier, and CR-certified zipper bags exist as a specialty item โ call us for availability.
It depends on your product and state โ many regulated products require certified CR packaging by law. Ask your attorney what applies to what you sell; we can supply the compliant container either way.
